Laura Wyckoff

Dr. Laura Wyckoff is a passionate, dynamic leader and nationally recognized expert in evidence-based criminal justice practices. Known for her optimistic style and ability to motivate those around her, she has earned the genuine admiration of police leaders and practitioners across the country. Her career reflects a rare blend of research expertise and hands-on engagement with the field—translating complex findings into practical strategies that improve outcomes on the ground.

Dr. Wyckoff recently transitioned from full-time roles and is now stepping into consulting, bringing her experience and energy to efforts aimed at making more meaningful, lasting change in the field. Her work bridges the gap between research and real-world application, helping agencies not only implement evidence-based strategies but also assess and improve the policies that shape outcomes on the ground.

Most recently, she served as Senior Director of Knowledge, Learning, and Translation at the National Policing Institute, where she led efforts to translate research into actionable guidance through training and technical assistance. Prior to that, she was Chief of Staff at the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), overseeing major projects and promoting innovative practices in policing.

Her federal experience includes serving as Senior Performance Management Analyst at the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), where she was responsible for performance measurement, program development, data analysis, and integrating evidence-based approaches into national initiatives.

Dr. Wyckoff also held applied research and technical assistance roles as a Senior Faculty Researcher at the University of Maryland and Science Advisor to the Police Foundation, focusing on applied research, policy evaluation, and technical assistance in policing, juvenile justice, and prosecution.

With expertise spanning program development, policy analysis and reform, performance management, crime prevention strategies, crime analysis, and place-based criminology, Dr. Wyckoff is widely respected for her ability to help agencies turn research into actionable change. Whether advising senior police executives or working directly with line officers, she brings energy, clarity, and a deep respect for the profession—qualities that consistently inspire those around her.
